What’s the Event About?

The Chemistry-themed day is organized in collaboration with the Finnish Forest Products’ Engineers Association (PI) and the Finnish Chemical Society. The day's program includes workshops and presentations for invited school groups, while in the evening (4 PM – 10 PM), the event is open to all chemistry enthusiasts.

Why is PI Involved?

Today, chemical engineering bachelor’s studies serve as a gateway to higher education in the forest products industry. That’s why we find it important to be part of this event!

Who is the Event For?

  • Day session: Entire school classes from lower secondary schools with their teachers (by invitation)
  • Evening session: Open to everyone interested in chemistry, including children, young people, and families. Heureka will operate with discounted ticket prices for the evening. Based on past events, the evening session is expected to attract around 2,000–2,500 visitors.

Program Highlights:

  • Throughout the day and evening, alongside Heureka’s permanent exhibitions, visitors can enjoy chemistry-themed workshops, lectures, and info points.
  • PI will present its work at its own stand and host a special workshop, Käpypaja. Inspired by Aalto University’s Bioinnovation Center, Käpypaja is a customized Heureka workshop where visitors can explore biomaterials by shaping forest-scented, non-toxic figures from pinecone granules and methylcellulose solution.
  • Other exciting activities include "Money Laundering" Workshop: Experimenting with acids and bases to clean tarnished coins.
  • The Science Show for the evening will have a chemistry theme, and the auditorium will feature short science presentations and film clips, questioning the scientific accuracy of chemistry-related content in movies.
